AmeriCorps FAQ & Application Resources

The Amarillo ISD AmeriCorps program is an amazing opportunity for high school seniors and college students to gain valuable job skills and give back to their community. 

High School Juniors (who attend one of the four AISD High Schools) can apply to serve in their senior year as long as they will turn 17 by the August start date and meet criteria listed on the application.

College students who meet criteria listed on the application can apply for the AmeriCorps college program.

Our AmeriCorps members tutor elementary students who need an extra boost in literacy. Members tutor in classrooms and after school programs offering activities which benefit elementary students emotionally, academically, physically and socially.

Successful completion of the AmeriCorps Service Program and the required number of hours benefit the members by providing:

  • Hands on job skills and training
  • A monthly living allowance
  • Eligibility for the Segal Education Award
  1. Ask your high school counselor for an application.
     
  2. Print and complete the application including necessary documentation.
     
  3. Mail or drop off the application to:

    1100 N. Forest.   (This location is the old AACAL building)
    Amarillo, TX 79106

    Applications can also be turned in to the Junior Counselor at your high school.
     
  4. High School Applications are due by February 20, 2026. If you need an AmeriCorps application, reach out to your school counselor who can provide you with one. College Applications are due by (To be determined).
     
  5. Qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview in late March, early April.
     
  6. Notifications will be given in April.
     
  7. Service will begin in August of the next school year.
