Travis Middle School and 6th Grade Campus Choir

Director: Rod Zeman
The Choir Program at Travis Middle School has grown to become a well-respected and well-recognized arts program throughout the Panhandle of Texas. The students learn to become successful at their craft, while succeeding in academics, sports and other areas of interest. The Choral Program is under the direction of Mrs. Nichole Wells and has been since 2007.

Students who begin our Choir Program in the sixth grade can look forward to a creative, fun & sequential music program that will prepare them to continue on in any High School Choir Program. We emphasize a thorough foundation in individual performance fundamentals. As the students’ progress, they will have the opportunity to perform in show choirs and compete with other choirs in the area as well as those from outside of town.

Members can also expect to travel to regional competitions in other areas of Texas. This will further individual skills and develop their preparation and ensemble skills.

As students continue in the program, they are challenged in both repertoire and expectations. Students have the opportunity to increase their level of excellence and develop a deeper understanding of the language of music and how it affects them personally.

The Choirs at Travis consistently earn First Division and Excellent ratings at UIL Choral & Solo/Ensemble Competitions, Dumas Music Festival, Greater Southwest Music Festival, Irons Music Festival (where our choirs have consistently earned First Divisions and Multiple Best in Class Awards). Multiple competitions in the Dallas Classic Festival have brought home Top Honors from Esteemed Choral Judges throughout Texas and the United States.

When students enter the choir room they begin to learn about teamwork, multi-tasking, responsibility and the Travis Choir Family. We strive to support each other in our endeavors as well as support others in the community. Each year, the Travis Choir kids and their families put together Thanksgiving Meals for families in the community. At Travis Choir we believe in helping others and that is a lesson I wish all of my students to learn. We’ve assisted over 180 families in the Potter/Randall area!

We are proud of the tradition of excellence the Travis Choirs enjoys in our community and throughout the State of Texas. We look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence both inside the music room, upon the stage, and in our community.
