Mission Statement

Provide a safe and clean environment for students and faculty on campus or at UIL competitions. We take pride in having clean grounds and sporting event facilities.

  • Supervision/coordination of the overall procedures/activities of the pest control department
  • Establish strict guidelines for pesticide and herbicide applications mandated by state laws and regulations
  • Maintain accurate records for pesticide applications, employee training, project status, labor and material cost
  • Establishes and makes adjustments to pest control schedules, including emergencies
  • Recommends improvements on production methods, integrated pest management practices, and equipment performance
  • Identifies and makes recommendations for sanitation, pest eradication, and exclusion
  • Demonstrates effective communications with subordinates and work-related problems

  • Athletic Crew Leader
    • Provide cultural care to turf, trees and shrubs
    • Supervision of stadium activities, preparation of athletic events, and coordinating of required grounds event staff
    • Organize, direct and coordination of athletic field maintenance, renovations, and event setups
    • Monitor watering schedules of athletic fields
    • Establish and maintain open communication with school coaching staff
    • Coordinate with the Athletic Department and coaches in scheduling various maintenance repairs
    • Assist in preparation and administering the department budget and monitor and control expenditures in accordance with established goals and policies
    • Supervises application of pesticides and fertilizers
    • Assist in determining cultivation and field renovation schedules
    • Perform record keeping and other documentation
    • Inspect the work performed by Assistant Athletic Crew Leader and Stadium Coordinator
    • Fills in during absence of Foreman
    • Assist Grounds Foreman in daily activities
  • Assistant Athletic Crew Leader
    • Provide cultural care to turf, trees and shrubs
    • Assist in the supervision of the day-to-day activities, initiate and make recommendations and coordinate functions of the athletic crews
    • Perform manual labor in maintaining athletic fields, event preparations, and renovation
    • Coordinate with the Athletic Department and coaches in scheduling various maintenance repairs
    • Perform work orders, record keeping and other documentation
    • Activate and deactivate athletic field irrigation systems, according to season priorities or pre-established watering schedules
    • Gather and update historical data for each athletic field
    • Establish and maintain open communication with school coaching staff
    • Coordinate grounds stadium event staff of UIL competitions and events
  • Athletic Operator
    • Perform scheduled maintenance of athletic fields to include, but limited to: mowing, fertilizing, pesticide applications, aerating, seeding and top dressing
    • Service tractor engines and hydraulic/mechanical parts and accessories
    • Performs all documentation for work orders
    • Transports necessary equipment to various job sites
  • Field Groomer
    • Provide cultural care of athletic turf through routine scheduled mowing
    • Assist work crews as assigned with field maintenance
    • Routinely inspect the condition of the turf both before and after mowing to identify poor turf health
    • Maintains inventory for assigned equipment and supplies
    • Services mower engines and mower hydraulic/mechanical parts and accessories
    • Follow routine mowing and maintenance procedures for athletic fields to maintain a high standard of safety, playability, and cleanliness
  • Field Keeper 
    • Provide cultural care of athletic turf
    • Perform necessary maintenance on equipment and tools
    • Perform work order record keeping and other documentation
    • Perform manual labor in field marking and setting up for athletic equipment for scheduled athletic competitions
    • Assist work crews with tasks
    • Maintain tools, equipment and supplies assigned
  • Stadium Coordinator
    • Prepare and maintain the stadium and north field for all UIL competitive events
    • Keep stadium and nursery grounds neat and clean including but not limited to: sidewalks, bleachers, driveways, and parking lots by mowing, sweeping, washing and edging
    • Activate and deactivate stadium and nursery irrigation system according to seasonal priorities or pre-established watering schedules
    • Lead assigned ground staff in maintenance and preparation of athletic fields
    • Must be present to maintain stadium during events
    • Report all emergency situations, maintenance and safety concerns to appropriate personnel
    • Maintain good public relations and communication with co-workers, principals, coaches and department heads
    • Maintain accountability of tools, equipment and supplies assigned to stadium and nursery
  • Stadium Assistant
    • Keep stadium and nursery grounds neat and clean including but not limited to: sidewalks, bleachers, driveways, and parking lots, by mowing, sweeping, washing and edging

  • Grounds Crew Leader
    • On-site supervision of grounds crews involved with mowing lawns, seed and sod lawns, care of bed and plants, and application of fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides
    • Perform manual labor in maintaining lawns, landscape beds and cleaning of hard scapes
    • Provide truck and equipment, coordinate supplies, and make recommendations for needed supplies and equipment
    • Assist in determining cultivation and lawn mowing schedules
    • Perform record keeping associated with work orders
    • Reports maintenance problems that are observed which may or may not be covered by the craft
    • Assist Grounds Foreman in daily activities
  • Campus Grounds Custodian
    • Keep assigned campus grounds neat and clean, including but not limited to: lawn, sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and play areas
    • Aid in maintaining proper watering schedule on all campuses
    • Responsible for condition of equipment
  • Grounds Crew Captain
    • Supervise assigned crews to perform manual labor in routine cleaning, mowing and watering of campuses
    • Provide truck and equipment security
    • Perform daily inspection and cleaning of assigned equipment

    • Provide assistance to Mow Crew Captain with cultural care of turf, trees and shrubs

  • Fence/Sign Mechanic
    • Install and repair fences and traffic signs to specifications including welding, gate construction, concrete work, setting posts and installing new hardware

  • Lead Sprinkler Mechanic
    • Organize, coordinate and direct activities related to the maintenance, repair and installation of irrigation systems
    • Coordinate with Principals, Department Foreman, Supervisors and Coaches in scheduling of various irrigation projects
    • Perform manual labor in maintenance, repairing and installation of district’s irrigation systems
  • Playground Mechanic
    • Repair and install playground equipment to specifications including welding, setting posts, concrete work and installing hardware
    • Estimate materials
    • Identify and resolve various maintenance repair problems to playground equipment
    • Operate and maintain hand/power tools and equipment required in the craft
  • Sprinkler Mechanic
    • Lay out and install new or renovated irrigation systems
    • Perform irrigation services and repairs
    • Estimate material amounts and types
    • Maintain accurate records for proper completion of work orders
    • Read blueprints and drawings for installation of irrigation systems
  • Welder
    • Read blueprints and drawings for fabrications of various structures
    • Identify materials for work orders and mark using soapstones
    • Weld porches, railings, steps and security screens using appropriate welding techniques for metal and angle iron
    • Make necessary repairs and installation for wheelchair ramps, stairwells, and rails using arc-welding techniques for cold steel or hardened steel metal
    • Build water drainage bridgework for concrete walks
    • Work with various metal properties to fabricate associated repairs for athletic equipment, doors, hasp locks, tractor equipment and automotive parts.
