Kindergarten Information

Kindergarten Pre-Registration

PLEASE NOTE: Students who were registered and attended an Amarillo ISD school in a Pre-K program are automatically advanced or promoted into the same school’s Kindergarten program. You do not need to register a student for Kindergarten if the student attended an Amarillo ISD program the previous school year. You can still contact your school if you have questions or to confirm that your student will be pre-registered automatically at that same school.

Amarillo Independent School District provides Kindergarten programs in all elementary schools for children who are five-years-old on or before September 1 of the current school year.

Kindergarten Registration Process:
In order to enroll in Kindergarten, your child must be 5 years of age on or before September 1st on the school year that you are wanting to enroll your child in.

Academic Standards:
Beginning in Kindergarten, children receive classroom instruction based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

Amarillo ISD's teaching and learning methods focus on all aspects of children's cognitive, social, emotional, language, artistic, and physical development. Teachers focus on what children need to succeed and build upon the children's strengths, natural curiosity, and motivation to learn. Amarillo's Academic Standards 2.0 focus on English, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, health and safety, social skills, technology and physical development.

To ensure student success, Amarillo's educators have developed AISD's Curriculum Standards 2.0, aligned from Pre-Kindergarten through High School to support best practices in education.

KinderKonzert:
KinderKonzerts are sponsored by the Amarillo Symphony Guild. The Amarillo Symphony performs holiday favorites for Kindergarten students enrolled in AISD and area schools. Instruments are featured and the sounds the instruments make are introduced to the young participants. The performances are held at the Amarillo Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts.
