Shaw Presented With District’s Highest Employee Honor

May 11, 2023 – Darrell Shaw, Electrical Planner and Assistant Electrical Foreman, is the recipient of Amarillo ISD’s highest employee honor. Shaw was presented the 2023 Bob Ashworth Award for Outstanding Service at the District’s annual Service Recognition Banquet on May 8.

Shaw’s nomination noted his dedication, persistent loyalty and contributions to the students, administration and employees of AISD:

“Darrell has contributed his talents, knowledge and abilities to several departments and projects over his near 30-year career at AISD. He has been asked to oversee many large projects while maintaining his regular duties, as well as work in different departments within maintenance to improve daily work and various systems in the department. Darrell has set an example of how to be an outstanding employee and coworker. Although some may not remember his name, they know the ‘tall guy with the big white mustache’ will get things done.”

- David Esters, AISD Electrical Foreman

The Bob Ashworth Award is given annually to an employee with an outstanding career of service to students and staff. This award is named after Ashworth, who served as superintendent of AISD from 1958 to 1978. Along with a plaque and a monetary award, Shaw’s portrait will hang outside the boardroom of the Rod Schroder Education Support Center.

Some 90 retiring employees were also honored at the banquet who altogether totaled 2,101 years of District service. AISD is the city’s largest employer with more than 5,000 employees supporting the District’s 30,000 students.
