Melton Honored With District’s Highest Employee Honor

May 20, 2019—A campus administrative professional at Mesa Verde with 36 years of service to Amarillo ISD is the recipient of the District’s highest employee honor. Cindy Melton was presented the 2019 Bob Ashworth Award for Outstanding Service at the District’s annual Service Recognition Banquet on May 6.

Eight nominations were submitted on Melton’s behalf, each commending her dedication to her craft and recognizing her as a quality staff member, a Core Value of AISD. One nominator described Melton as “a tremendous support to administration, considering the breadth and depth of knowledge she has, and is always looking for ways to solve the day-to-day problems that arise at an elementary school.” Another praised Melton’s commitment to her work, saying, “If the secretary is strong, then the campus is strong.”

The Bob Ashworth Award is given annually to an employee with an outstanding career of service to students and staff. This award is named after Ashworth, who served as the superintendent of AISD from 1958 to 1978. Along with a plaque and a monetary award, Melton’s portrait will hang outside the Rod Schroder Education Support Center boardroom.

More than 290 AISD employees were honored at the banquet, receiving 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40-year service pins. Of those retiring, their combined experience totaled 2,377 years.

AISD is the city’s largest employer with more than 4,000 employees and supporting the District’s 33,000 students.
