AISD COVID-19 Update-April 7

In today’s update, we have instructions for drop offs and pickups of school work, an update for the 2020 Senior Class and more.

Thank you for what you are doing to help your children continue to make progress academically while our school buildings are closed. We appreciate your support and flexibility as we work to refine at-home learning. Please continue to reach out to teachers, principals and other AISD staff for help. We are all in this together!

In This Update:

  • Instructions for picking up and dropping off completed assignments and schoolwork, and for picking up Snack Paks
  • Information about grading, class rank and GPA
  • An update for the 2020 Senior Class

We have set up the following guidelines to help make it more convenient for our students and families to pick up schoolwork, return completed assignments and receive teacher feedback. Snack Paks will also be available for pick up with instructional packets for our families who are continuing to receive that service.

Methods for Returning Completed Assignments:
Each classroom teacher will determine how he or she would like students to turn in schoolwork and completed assignments. The preferred and quickest way to turn in work and for teachers to provide feedback is through technology. Teachers will gladly respond to students after assessing returned paper packets, however feedback and/or grades from paper packet assignments may take a little longer. Parents, please feel free to email your child’s teacher to verify the best way to turn in work and receive feedback. The following are some methods teachers use:

  • Google Classroom workflow
  • Teacher monitoring of online instructional platforms (for example, Istation, Imagine Learning, Khan Academy, etc.)
  • Scan completed work and email to teacher’s @amaisd.org email
  • Photo of selected assignments by cell phone sent to the teacher’s @amaisd.org email, or uploaded into SeeSaw/Dojo/Remind
  • Phone conversation or virtual meeting with teacher
  • Return paper packets (see below for details)

PLEASE NOTE: It is very important that all students complete at-home learning assignments to the best of their ability. If students fail to complete schoolwork during this time, grades, course credit, promotion to the next grade level and/or graduation could be impacted.

Stations and Schedule for Instructional Packet Pick-up and Return:
Stations will be set up at all AISD schools for families to drive up and receive paper-pencil instructional packets for at-home learning, and also to drop off completed assignments. (If your student is completing assignments and schoolwork online through technology at home, you do not need to pick up paper instructional packets or drop off completed work.) The stations will be set up according to the schedule below. For those families participating in Snack Pak, Snack Pak pick-up will also be available according to the schedule below. Note that on Thursday April 9, and Friday, April 24, you will be picking up packets containing work and assignments for the next two weeks.

PLEASE NOTE: To ensure everyone’s safety, no school staff member, parent/family member, or student who has symptoms consistent with COVID-19 or who has been in close, direct contact with an individual who has COVID-19 or is symptomatic should be involved in packet preparation, distribution or return.

Information about grading, class rank and GPA:
The District is considering how to develop an equitable process for students when it comes to grading work from home and determining class rank and grade point averages (GPA) for the Spring semester. We are working with our District advisory committee and School Board as well as campus administrators and teachers to try to ensure academic equity for all students and to make sure we support students during at-home instruction with strong teacher assistance and feedback.

Update for the Senior Class of 2020:
We know the last months of high school should be filled with special events and memory-making moments with your friends and family. As you know, right now everything is on hold until at least May 4, by order of the Governor. We will await guidance from state and local school officials about what the month of May holds. We understand your desire for more information when it comes to proms, graduation festivities, and other end-of-the-year events. Please be patient as we wait together for answers in the coming weeks. We will communicate with you as soon as we have information to share.
