Amarillo ISD Purchasing Department Honored with State Award

February 22, 2023 – The Purchasing Department of Amarillo ISD was a recipient of an Award of Merit for Purchasing Operations at this year’s Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO) conference held February 12-17 in San Antonio.

David Harder, AISD’s Director of Procurement, expressed his appreciation of the District’s procurement staff and other stakeholders who have embraced their mission and are being recognized for their efforts.

“The mission of the AISD Purchasing Department is to purchase with consistent integrity, serve beyond expectation, and constantly evolve through the pursuit of knowledge, all towards the District’s mission of empowering future generations to succeed,” said Harder. “Ultimately, we are here for the students and are constantly striving to be the best at what we do to make sure the students have the products and services needed to further their education and success.”

The Award of Merit was established in 2009 to recognize Texas school districts, open-enrollment charter schools, and education services centers that are committed to following professional standards in the acquisition of goods and services. Each year, volunteers with the TASBO Purchasing & Supply Management Research Committee evaluate the award criteria to ensure it represents the latest best practices. They then review new and recertification applications. For 2023, only 71 districts met the stringent criteria to qualify for the award.

“As Texas school districts face ever-increasing pressure to use funds efficiently, we’re honored to recognize the work our honorees do to streamline operations, comply with regulations, and set the standard for how to utilize taxpayer dollars,” said Tracy Ginsburg, TASBO Executive Director. “These organizations have not only demonstrated their professional purchasing operations by documenting their districts’ policies and procedures, but have also shared these best practices with colleagues throughout the state.”

The Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO) is an independent, not-for-profit association that supports the professionals who help make Texas public schools thrive.
