Amarillo ISD District Teachers of the Year Announced

May 5, 2023 – Amarillo ISD’s 2022-2023 Elementary Teacher of the Year is Beth Talley and Secondary Teacher of the Year is Chelsey Dosher, the District announced Friday morning at the annual Lamar Lively Teacher of the Year Breakfast, sponsored by Education Credit Union.

Talley teaches second grade at South Georgia Elementary School and Dosher teaches eighth grade English/Langauge Arts at Austin Middle School. They will continue in the competition for Region 16 Teacher of the Year.

“Outside of graduation, honoring teachers is the most important thing we do every year,” said Superintendent Doug Loomis. “Teachers are such special individuals and really have the power of changing our world.”

Campus teachers of the year were accompanied by their school administration to the breakfast. During the event remarks were made by outgoing Elementary Teacher of the Year Tiffany Ryals and outgoing Secondary Teacher of the Year Rhonda Obenhaus, who read from some of the nominations for this year’s campus teachers of the year. “You carry the attitude of ‘I got you,’” she read. “You make connections because our students’ stories matter.”

In her own nomination, Secondary Teacher of the Year Chelsey Dosher expressed a similar sentiment. “To be successful as a teacher, I must carry the attitude every day that I am there to help my students be successful and to believe they can be successful. I must carry the attitude that I’ve got them. I know how to teach and I’m going to be the teacher they need.”
