Seen and Heard at the November 2023 School Board Meeting

November 13, 2023 – The November Board meeting began with selections from a combined show choir from Amarillo, Caprock, Palo Duro and Tascosa high schools.  The combined choir will be singing at the 2023 Community Prayer Breakfast on November 21.

After the performance, Trustees approved a clean audit report for the District’s funds and accounts for 2022-2023. The Board also took action to designate a portion of the District’s fund balance, or reserve fund, for future capital project expenditures.

Trustees approved tax rolls for Potter and Randall counties for 2023. The tax rolls are calculated by applying the AISD tax rate of $0.9258 per $100 of property valuation to the taxable values in the two counties. The total amount Potter and Randall counties expect to levy in school district property taxes for 2023 is $92,224,498.75, which is a $26 million decrease from last year. Trustees also cast votes for members of the Potter-Randall County Appraisal District Board of Directors.

In other business, the Board revised a policy regarding non-District students attending AmTech Career Academy. Students enrolled in a charter school may attend AmTech but will need to pay tuition for classes they wish to take because Amarillo ISD cannot receive state funding for these students.

Finally, the Board acknowledged gifts and donations totaling $59,147.50, given to various schools this month from Cumulus Media Amarillo, Lilian and Steven Craig, St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Dr. Buddy Young, Amarillo Opera, AHS Class of ‘55, Sherrie Rickwartz, Kenneth and Mary Rickwartz, Sleepy Hollow PTO, Cody and Elizabeth Rogers, Jeffery Skidmore, and Woodlands PTO.
