Palo Duro Freshman Honored as Outstanding Youth

November 21, 2013 – Palo Duro High freshman Chris Dizer has been honored as Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy by the Texas Plains Chapter of The Association of Fundraising Professionals. Recognized during the National Philanthropy Day Luncheon, held November 12 in the Amarillo Civic Center, Dizer was in good company with fellow community philanthropists.

Dizer has volunteered his time to the Kids Café program at Hamlet Elementary since he attended school there. “What made me want to start giving back is seeing how hard the ladies who work in the program worked. I knew they needed help so I just decided that I’d help out,” Dizer said.

Kids Café is a national program which partners with public schools and other non-profits to provide after school meals and snacks to children of low income areas. Dizer volunteers to prepare meals and clean the area after students have been served. “It makes me feel good because I know the program works hard to help kids out and I know it can really help families who sometimes can’t afford meals after school,” Dizer said.

The nomination letter, written by Leigh Fuller of the High Plains Food Bank, recognizes Dizer as a leader in the program. “The children respect him as he does them. Chris reminds the children at Kids Café always to use their manners and express gratitude for the food provided them.  He encourages the kids to be kind to each other and to appreciate what we do for each other in this community.”
