High School Juniors take SAT in School April 16

April 15, 2014 – As part of the Amarillo ISD mission to graduate students prepared for success beyond high school, all high school juniors will have the opportunity to take the SAT in school on Wednesday, April 16. A new initiative by College Board makes access to SAT and other tests more readily available to students at locations and times which are convenient to them.

“The test will be given to all juniors at the four comprehensive high schools,” Tracey Morman, director of guidance and counseling said. “The cost of the test is paid for by AISD, but students must register for the SAT beforehand.”

College Board piloted programs in 2011 for school-day testing of juniors on high school campuses across the country. During the pilot phase, Caprock High was chosen as a school-day testing site and many of the school’s junior students participated.

“Having testing in school allows for a controlled environment our students can more easily adapt to,” Caprock Principal David Bishop said. “Every child can take the test at school because there are not the obstacles of going elsewhere and are at a time when they need to be in school anyway. With the district absorbing testing cost, we think more students will be able to test than ever before.”

Students can prepare for the SAT using a free online test preparation program provided by AISD. To access the service, students should visit their college and career counselor for login information. Access is free for 12 months, so if a student chooses to retest during the normal SAT testing dates they will have continued access to the test preparation service.
