Cleburne ISD Purchases AISD Curriculum

July 24, 2014 – Amarillo ISD teachers have worked diligently over the last several years to develop a curriculum in demand by other districts. Cleburne ISD trustees approved the purchase of the AISD curriculum framework in May at a cost of $30,000. The purchase of an established curriculum will enable Cleburne ISD staff to gradually personalize the program for their district needs.

Nearly a decade ago, teachers and curriculum specialists in AISD overhauled lessons and courses to better reflect student needs in the classroom. Stacey Harris, director of content, support and instruction, said over the years, AISD’s basic framework of curriculum has evolved into a widely sought after instructional package the district is proud to have.

“Smaller districts like Cleburne may not have the staff time to devote to working on curriculum standards development,” Harris said. For those districts without full-time curriculum specialist positions, having a framework gives them “a strong document to start their own process of yearly curriculum evolution,” Harris said.

The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, or TEKS, are curriculum standards which ensure students across the state receive essentially the same education. Nearly every year, the TEKS are modified to reflect the needs of Texas education, and in turn, districts modify their curriculum. “Every year, we make small adjustments to the order and arrangement of the state standards so our curriculum is taught in the most logical and effective sequence.”
