The Amarillo Education Foundation is bringing the internationally-acclaimed Harlem Ambassadors to Amarillo for a benefit basketball game at the Amarillo High School Activity Center on Saturday, January 24, at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at Amarillo area Pak-a-Sak locations for $8; they will be $10 at the door. Kids 4 and under get in free.
Proceeds of the game will benefit the Amarillo Education Foundation’s Rick Husband Science Initiative Fund, which is used to help fund science equipment and materials in Amarillo ISD schools.
A team of media personalities, local celebrities, ministers and coaches have volunteered to make up the Amarillo STARS, the local team that will play the Harlem Ambassadors. Amarillo Chamber President and CEO Gary Molberg is the honorary coach for the team that includes, among others, Potter County Commissioner Mercy Murguia, Amarillo Venom Coach Julian Reese, Globe News Sports Editor Lance Lahnert, KFDA Channel 10 Sports Director Matt Hamilton, Tascosa High School Boys Basketball Coach Steve Jackson, Palo Duro High School Girls Basketball Coach A.J. Johnson, Bowie 6th Grade Campus Principal Kim Lackey, Polk Street United Methodist Church Pastor Burt Palmer, and First Presbyterian Church Associate Pastor Murray Gossett.
“We encourage everyone to come out and join us for this fun, family event,” said Mary Bralley, president of the Amarillo Education Foundation Board of Directors. “This comedy basketball show will offer great entertainment for all ages and will give the audience a chance to see some favorite local personalities in action on the court! And the proceeds go to a great cause – science programs in Amarillo ISD schools.”

The Amarillo Education Foundation established the Rick Husband Memorial fund in 2002 to honor Rick Husband, Amarillo native, AISD graduate and astronaut, for his accomplishments, character and courage as a fallen hero of the aerospace world. The memorial fund was later dedicated to science programs and renamed the Rick Husband Science Initiative Fund.
The Harlem Ambassadors offer a unique brand of Harlem-style basketball, featuring high-flying slam dunks, ball-handling tricks and hilarious comedy routines. Since 1998, the Harlem Ambassadors have helped community service organizations across the country and overseas raise more than $9 million.
The Amarillo Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, established to “promote educational excellence for all AISD children through community advocacy and financial support.”
