Classes to Resume at Caprock High School Following Main Water Line Break

October 26, 2017 – Classes at Caprock High School will resume at their normal time Friday morning, October 27, following a water main break which forced the cancelation of school on Thursday.  Currently, the City of Amarillo is working to install a temporary water line which would restore water service to the campus.

In the event a temporary line does not go through, portable restrooms will be on-site. The district will also provide bottled water for students and staff. Cafeteria meals will be prepared off-site and brought to the school so that breakfast and lunch service can continue as usual.

Because crews are working to resolve the water main break, traffic around Caprock will be a challenge on Friday. Students and parents should plan for likely traffic delays and be aware of the following modifications:

  • 34th Avenue will be reduced from four lanes to two lanes.
  • The front side of Caprock (south side, with the circle drive) will not be available for student drop off or pick-up. All bus boarding and pick-up, including buses to AACAL, will be diverted to Longhorn Trail.
  • Students who use the parking lots south of 34th Avenue should use the eastern-most cross walk to cross the street to get to the campus.
