Tascosa's Daniel Named Texas Assistant Principal of the Year

December 12, 2017—Tascosa High School Associate Principal Drew Daniel has been named Texas Assistant Principal of the Year by The Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP.)

“Drew Daniel represents the best in leadership and certainly TASSP’s student-first motto,” said AISD Chief Leadership and Support Officer David Bishop, who was principal of Tascosa High School during the 2016-2017 school year when Daniel was nominated. “He is a strong advocate for the students of Tascosa High School and a leader who models the characteristics we’re working to develop in our scholars, which is to empower them to become thinkers, communicators, collaborators and contributors.”

Daniel, who holds a master’s degree in administration, has been an assistant principal for 11 years, serving the last six of those at Tascosa. In his nomination form, Daniel specifically addressed leadership. “Great leadership increases only when you grow and expand your network of peers,” he wrote. “However, to influence well, you must become a leader who leads other leaders.”

“We have tremendous administrators and educators in AISD,” said Bishop. “You want to see them rise through the ranks if they aspire to do so. When an educator does and then is recognized with such a significant honor as this, it reinforces our belief that we have the very best in AISD.”

Each year, outstanding principals and assistant principals are nominated for the honor by their peers. Finalists are selected from each of the state’s 20 regional education service centers. State Principals of the Year compete for the national title from National Association of Secondary Principals.
