Updated Information About School-Related Social Media Threats

February 27, 2018--School-related threats posted recently to social media have not been found to be credible. Amarillo ISD continues to work closely with the Amarillo Police Department to investigate all threats.

Various threats were posted on social media throughout the day today and appear to be repostings of an initial threat which surfaced yesterday on Snapchat. None of the threats have been found to be credible. However, police have arrested two suspects believed to be involved in making the threats.

  • All schools remain open. No schools are or have been on lockdown.
  • Out of an abundance of caution, we have provided additional security measures at schools and in some cases, added police presence.
  • Students have been and continue to be safe in our schools.

We have communicated to our students that such threats are a crime and are taken very seriously.
