Two Schools Awarded All Distinctions From TEA

September 6, 2018—Two Amarillo ISD schools have earned all possible distinctions awarded by the Texas Education Agency for outstanding performance under the 2018 state accountability system. 

Lamar Elementary and Woodlands Elementary are the only two schools in the Amarillo metro area to earn all applicable distinctions, in addition to receiving the “met standard” rating. Distinctions are awarded to campuses for outstanding performance in relation to 40 other campuses of similar type, size and student demographics.  

Only around 400 of the state’s 8,700 public schools earned all possible distinctions.  In addition to Lamar and Woodlands’ special recognition, 70 percent of Amarillo ISD’s 55 schools earned at least one distinction. 

“It is difficult to earn all distinctions and only a small percentage of schools in the state achieve to this level. As we continue to build on our academic achievement, we are honored to have two campuses earn all distinctions and excited that the majority of our campuses are recognized with at least one distinction,” said Superintendent Dr. Dana West. 

Depending on campus grade levels and type, the number of potential distinctions can vary in up to seven categories:  Academic Achievement in English Language Arts/Reading; Academic Achievement in Mathematics; Academic Achievement in Science; Academic Achievement in Social Studies; Top 25 Percent: Comparative Academic Growth; Top 25 Percent: Comparative Closing the Gaps; and Postsecondary Readiness. 

All schools within AISD received a Met Standard rating in the accountability system for 2018.
