Referral

The referral of a student for possible special education services is a part of the overall general education referral or screening system of the district. All referrals from children ages 0-21 are initiated at the home campus.

When a student is referred to special education for a full individual evaluation (FIE), the principal will designate a certified general education staff member to be responsible for the completion of the special education referral packet. This person will most likely serve as one of the assessment personnel.

The referral packet must be completed and returned to the campus diagnostician or speech pathologist within ten school days from the initiation of the referral process.
